Win RT Whitelist Flash Tool

Welcome to the Windows RT Whitelist Flash Tool .

This tool will allow you to quickly enable any flash website to work on your RT device, import the custom whitelist, and restore your whitelist to default settings.

How flash works on RT devices.
Microsoft has implemented something called a compatibility list. This list contains websites that have been whitelisted to work with RT devices. This file is easy accessible to everyone, there are many tutorials out there that will show you how to manually add websites to the whitelist. However it is not a very easy process, that is why I have created this tool that will simply ask you what website you would like to add and the rest of the dirty work is done for you.

The tool does not require any installation. You unzip the folder and run “Windows RT Whitelist Flash tool”. Once you launch the tool the main menu will pop up.

Main Menu

As you can see above there are 5 options to choose from.

  • Option 1 will allow you to import that custom whitelist that is packaged with the tool.
  • Option 2 will restore the default flash settings and whitelist.
  • Option 3 will allow you to Backup or Restore your Whitelist .
  • Option 4 will allow you to add any flash website you want to the Whitelist.
  • Option 5 will display the about page.
  • Option 6 will exit the tool.

I am having trouble entering the website

  2. Could you add me to your list of “Featured On” websites? I wrote an article on the earlier version and just updated it for the new 1.6 release. My site is and the article can be found here:

I don’t suppose you could find out what domain(s) I need to input to get Farmville 2 to work? I have tried all sorts, but to no avail. A great tool by the way, unless of course, like me, you don’t know the correct address to start with.

    • I will look into this and get back to you

I have tried using (gleaned from flash player settings) and I think is already in the whitelist anyhow, but still no joy. So there must be another one or two domains that are needed. Any luck so far?

Any success yet, bought a surface for my girlfried. For her Farmville 2 is a very important issue.

I’ve been trying to use your tool for days and have not had any luck getting it to work :/
For example, I went to (site for my German E-Textbook) and figured out the url for the flash object on the main screen ( I opened the tool (which is also not formatted the same way as in your screenshots) pressed 4, y, and entered opened IE back up, no luck. I hope the info I’ve given you will bring to light possibly anything that’s wrong with what I’m doing or with my Surface…

P.S. thanks for making this tool, once i get it to work I’ll be one happy camper.

    • Are you using the latest version 1.6? could you post a screen shot of the way the formating looks on your screen? do you get any error messages or does it say it completed?

      • Darrin

         /  February 26, 2013

        1. Yes, I’m using v1.6
        2. Format:
        3. No errors, it clears the cache and all that good stuff then says “press any key to continue.” It acts as if it’s working perfectly (minus the way it looks)

      • Wow that is weird it looks like its running in debug mode. Please try re downloading it, that is very odd. I tested out your site and it worked on the RT device i tested it on

         /  February 26, 2013

okay, redownloaded it from the second mirror this time, still looks the same, and still doesn’t affect the site :/

      • hmm very off, have you tried the restore option to restore the list to default. also if its not to much of a hassle try creating another user account temperately and see if it still shows up with the wrong format.

         /  February 26, 2013

Okay, here’s the issue, and it may happen to others:
In your code, you used “%username%” to go along the file path according to the user’s specific username. This should work perfectly fine for everyone, but I’m not so lucky. For some reason my username and the folder with the user files has a different name. (username=Darrin, folder name=darri_000) Thus, in my specific case, it didn’t work for me. I think I previously replaced my account and kept the same name, so it created that path. My fault.
I replaced “%username%” with “darri_000” in your code and it works like a charm now.
        Again, thanks for everything :)

okay, created a temporary (local) account and the tool is working properly. idk what i screwed up on my main account, but hopefully i will be able to fix it. thanks for your help!

      • Hey thanks for giving the feed back. You are right that would cause an issue, I forgot that when you create a new user with the name as the one you had deleted that it would not name the folder the same. Thanks for catching that I will attempt to replicate this issue in a Virtual machine and see if I can work around it. Thanks again! Glad its working for you

Has anyone determined how to get or working? I’m guessing they use a bunch of hosts that I can’t find the URL to. Also is deleting the history necessary? I use the other method of entering the URL into the debug registry key and that never requires anything more than a refresh.

Just installed..very easy and simple. Thanks!!! Has anyone put together general lists yet? Would expect a lot of us “streamers” use same sites.

  7. Video is too grainy to read…except for your comments.
I am not very techy. It would help if there was an example of how much of the URL is actually needed. Facebook games are not working.
    Do I need

  8. URL for FACEBOOK games is http://APPS.FACEBOOK blah blah. Tool only asks for the FACEBOOK. If that is correct, will entering JUST FACEBOOK work?

Have you heard of any issues with They are big stream site and I put in and that’s the base address ( entered) but still unable to stream gives me the no flash player installed upgrade bs.

  10. Hmm it looks like your blog ate my first comment
(it was extremely long) so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I wrote and say, I’m thoroughly enjoying your blog.

I too am an aspiring blog blogger but I’m still new to the whole thing. Do you have any points for newbie blog writers? I’d really appreciate it.

    • Hey! Glad you are enjoying my blog. The best thing you can do is write about stuff that really interests you, never try to write about what you think will interest everyone else. A blog is really about what you like and what you feel should be shared with everyone. As for how to be successful and searchable just make sure to use tags on your posts so that you can be searchable from search engines. If you have any other questions feel free to visit my contact page. Best of luck!

  11. I do not know if it’s just me or if everybody else experiencing problems with your blog. It appears as though some of the written text within your posts are running off the screen. Can someone else please comment and let me know if this is happening to them too? This may be a problem with my web browser because I’ve had this
    happen before. Cheers

    • You have the first person who has said this. Are you using IE? try downloading another browser.

  12. Hello there! I know this is kinda off topic but I was wondering
if you knew where I could get a captcha plugin for my comment form?
I’m using the same blog platform as yours and I’m having
problems finding one? Thanks a lot!

  13. After checking out a handful of the blog articles on your blog, I truly like your way of
writing a blog. I saved as a favorite it to my bookmark site list and will be checking back in the near future.
Please check out my web site too and let me know your opinion.

    • Hey, I’m glad you are enjoying my blog! As for the plug-ins please send me an email using the contact us page and I’ll try and help you out. Also let me know your setup if it’s or a self hosted website.

  14. Hi it’s me, I am also visiting this web site regularly, this website is actually fastidious and the users are really sharing pleasant thoughts.

  15. Howdy just wanted to give you a brief heads up and let you know a few of the
images aren’t loading properly. I’m not sure why but I think its a linking issue.
I’ve tried it in two different internet browsers and both show the same results.

is there a way to run this tool silently for deployment on multiple devices?

    • Hmm I will have to look into that. If you want certain websites added and that’s it you could probably deploy it I would need to know more about the configuration.

Yea so just say i have a list of sites i need to allow on 100 devices. Can the script be adapted to read from a text file and process them all? Something like just taking the :ans4y section and making it read from a text file instead of taking user input :)
        Great tool though :) thanks!

      • Hmm I could probably just add your list to a custom white list then create you a script that the user clicks once and it’s added. Sounds like a pretty sweet environment you got going on there

  18. These are truly fantastic ideas in concerning blogging. You have touched some nice things here.

    Any way keep up wrinting.

Hi there, I recently purchased the surface with win rt. But I can’t stream any videos from my usual sites, (not the only issue I am having) so after days of looking into the problem I’m assuming that its the white list problem so I found your blog and hit the download link only to receive the error msg that the file is invalid when I tried to open it.
Do I need to download the mirror links as well?
    So off topic,
Do you know how to personalize the IE 10? Like get the address bar back to the top of the screen?
And be able to download apps that this windows “does not support” or is there a way to get around the annoying” not comparable with your pc” message I get every time I try and download something I want such as Google chrome?

    • Hello,

You only need to download one of the downloads try the mirror if the first one did not work. Once you have that downloaded you will need to extract the file.

As for being able to change how Internet Explorer looks you can use the desktop version instead of the metro one.

The reason you are not able to install chrome is because it is an x86 application that it meant for Windows 8. Windows 8 RT is a different platform that only supports RT applications right now most of these applications are only in the Microsoft Store.

Ok so the mirror link worked. I used the custom white list then tried to add a site from I copy/paste the address I wanted but now all I get is that I have to upgrade adobe flash player, witch is not compatible….. I also simply added the (where it is hosted from) address with the same result.

First of all. Thank you for making the tool.

I feel like I am doing everything correct. I am using version 1.6. And when I add a url it will be for example or or

I don´t get any error messages but the games og videos are still not working. What could be wrong?

    Thanks in advance

    • Hey there,

Make sure that this is actually where the video is coming from. Sometimes websites host the video link but the video is acutally from another site. Most me an example of a video and i will test it for you :)

DroidKid has done a good job making this tool, however no one should really need this anymore! the new firmware updates for the RT remove the white listing process all together…making any website work with flash perfectly without having to do anything. I have just done this on all the devices at my school so i can confirm this is the case. This is all just done through windows updates. Hope that helps…

  23. Nichlas

     /  November 12, 2013

That sounds great. But so far there are no windows update on my RT. And if I try to install flash it says that any changes will be made through Windows Update?

  24. Excellent post. I was checking constantly this blog and
I’m impressed! Extremely helpful info specifically the last part :) I care for such
info much. I was looking for this particular info for a long time.
Thank you and best of luck.
